Skardu & Hunza Grand Circuit — 12 Days

Overview

The flagship route — all of Baltistan, then over to Hunza and Gojal, in one continuous trip. Skardu’s lakes and forts, Shigar, Khaplu, and Deosai, then across to Karimabad, Attabad, Passu, Nagar and the Khunjerab Pass. Twelve days, private vehicle throughout, no repeated ground. The single most complete way to see Gilgit-Baltistan on one trip.

Day 1
Arrive in Skardu
Fly in from Islamabad. Evening at Kharpocho Fort.
Day 2
Skardu Lakes & Katpana
Shangrila and Upper Kachura lakes, then the Katpana dunes at sunset.
Day 3
Shigar Valley
Shigar Fort and the old wooden Amburiq Mosque.
Day 4
Khaplu
The hilltop palace and the 700-year-old Chaqchan Mosque.
Day 5
Deosai Plateau
Onto the plains above 4,000 m for Sheosar Lake and Bara Pani.
Day 6
Skardu to Hunza
A long transfer day up the Karakoram Highway into Hunza.
Day 7
Karimabad Forts
Baltit and Altit forts, then Duikar for sunset.
Day 8
Attabad Lake & Passu
The turquoise lake, the Passu Cones, and the Hussaini suspension bridge.
Day 9
Khunjerab Pass
Up to the Pakistan–China border through Khunjerab National Park.
Day 10
Nagar & Hopper
The Hopper Glacier and the Rakaposhi view at Ghulmet.
Day 11
Naltar Valley
A day trip to the coloured lakes above Gilgit, or a free day in Hunza.
Day 12
Departure
Fly out of Gilgit, or continue by road to Islamabad.
