Destinations in Gilgit-Baltistan

The base for everything in Baltistan — Shangrila and Upper Kachura lakes, Satpara, Kharpocho Fort and the Katpana cold-desert dunes, with Basho and Kharmang within a day’s drive.
Two heritage valleys either side of Skardu — Shigar Fort and the wooden Amburiq Mosque, Khaplu Palace and the 700-year-old Chaqchan Mosque, and the road on toward Askole and the Baltoro.
The high plateau at roughly 4,114 m — Sheosar Lake, Bara Pani, wildflowers and Himalayan brown bear. Open to vehicles only in the warm months, roughly July to September.
Karimabad with Baltit and Altit forts, sunrise from Duikar, the turquoise of Attabad, the Passu Cones, Hopper Glacier in Nagar, and the Karakoram Highway on to Khunjerab.
Rama Meadows and Rama Lake under Nanga Parbat, the Rupal Face at Tarishing, and the western approach to Deosai through Chilim.
The quietest good scenery in Gilgit-Baltistan — Phander’s blue river and trout water, Khalti Lake, Yasin and Ishkoman, and Shandur Pass on the way to Chitral.
