Overview

Nine unhurried days through the whole of Baltistan — not just the highlights, but the valleys between them. From Skardu’s lakes and the Katpana dunes, into Shigar’s fort and up toward the Askole road, across to Khaplu, and onto the Deosai plateau above 4,000 m, with a full day at Basho to slow down before you fly out. Easy to moderate: long days, real distance, no trekking required.

Tour Itinerary

Day 1
Arrive in Skardu
Fly in from Islamabad. Evening at Kharpocho Fort for the view over the Indus.
Day 2
Skardu Lakes & Katpana
Shangrila and Upper Kachura lakes, then the Katpana cold-desert dunes at sunset.
Day 3
Shigar Valley
The restored Shigar Fort and the old wooden Amburiq Mosque.
Day 4
Toward Askole
A day up the Braldu road toward Askole — the last village before the Baltoro, without the trek.
Day 5
Khaplu
The hilltop palace and the 700-year-old Chaqchan Mosque.
Day 6
Kharmang & Manthokha
The Indus gorge east of Skardu and the Manthokha Waterfall.
Day 7
Deosai Plateau
Onto the plains above 4,000 m for Sheosar Lake and Bara Pani.
Day 8
Basho Valley
A slow day of pine meadows and camping ground above the Indus.
Day 9
Departure
Fly out of Skardu, with a buffer for the weather-dependent flight.
